INTRODUCTION

The Founder and Minister General Johnbosco Mario, TOR, had a vision of a new world emerging and he wanted to make known the Gospel message of God’s love and care for all men and women and to evoke a response in every human heart. He especially valued love, concern, compassion, understanding, respect and acceptance of every individual. His vision was based on the words of Jesus: “I give you a new commandment, love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also must love one another. By this love you have for one another, everyone will know that you are my disciples.” [John 13:34 ff],

THE MOTTO OF THE CONGREGATION: GLORIFYING THE HEART OF LOVE

As the motto states, as members of Franciscan Friars of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Third Order Regular, we glorify the heart of Jesus which is full of love. We do this through our services to humanity by our way of life which culminates in living out the Gospel message of Christ; “Whatever you do to the least of my brethren that you do unto me.”

WHO WE ARE?

We are religious congregation whose lives and spirituality is deeply rooted in prayer, charity and love for the poorest of the poor of the rural society. We live our lives for the poor following Christ who first loved us and offered Himself for us all. Our live is centered on Christ with whom we are united in the daily celebration of the Eucharist. As members of this body, we vow ourselves to the challenge of living poverty, chastity and obedience in the presence of the Church. In this way, we further the work of our founder who unreservedly followed the crucified and risen Christ and dedicate all his life for the love of the people of God. As missionaries, Christ sends us out to our brothers and sisters especially the poorest of the poor and the abandoned to make them witness once again the reserved love of the Sacred heart of Jesus which is full of merciful love and in the spirit of brotherhood we journey with them in simplicity and joy of Gospel living. The Franciscans of the Sacred heart of Jesus realize their vocation living the Gospel mandate of Christ “Whatever you do to the least of my brothers that you unto me”, and also following in the steps of the poor and humble Christ in simplicity, peace and joy.

OUR VISION

The vision of the congregation is the realization of the mission through caring and rehabilitation of the poorest of the poor through our apostolate.

OUR CHARISM

The charism of the congregation is the gift of living for the poorest of the poor. To love, to care and to have affectionate feelings and sympathy for those brethren of ours who are abjectly poor, rejected and the ignorant with the injunction of JESUS, “whatsoever you do to the least of the brethren, that you do unto me.”

THE SPIRITUALITY OF THE CONGREGATION

The spirituality of the congregation is that of St. Francis which lies in restoring to its original status the dignity of human person which has been destroyed by rejection, hunger, ignorant and sickness. As members of the Franciscan Friars of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Third Order Regular, we respond to God’s call by living simply, unencumbered by possessions or attitudes, by dedicating ourselves to the fraternity, by responding to the mission of the Church, and by seeking to bring God and the message of conversion to all we meet. We commit ourselves, personally and corporately, to a life transformed by prayer and contemplation, to an on-going conversion of heart, mind and soul, and to a revelation of the Lord by our words and works, enabling the bruised and broken to hear and receive the message of reconciliation and healing embodied in Christ. To all we serve we commit ourselves to bring the grace and peace of God: the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

OUR APOSTOLATE

We as family of the Sacred Heart, we profess and live the Gospel within the Catholic Church. Living in fraternity and walking with God’s people, especially the poorest of the poor and the marginalized of the society, we are heralds of peace and ministers of reconciliation. We will create communities of prayer and shared life, living the Gospel message in the spirit of our founder, our life and mission, enlivening ourselves and others, respecting the circumstances and cultures in which we find ourselves. By the divine mission of Christ, the Father has fulfilled the divine plan of his church and humanity which is an obligation for everyone to love his neighbors.

WHO WE ARE?

We the Fathers and Brothers of Mercy Congregation known as the Misericordian Missionaries is a congregation founded with the inspiration of God by Brother MacAnthony Chinonye Maryclaret Alamezie in the year 2018. We are a congregation of the institute of the consecrated life for both priest, brothers, and lay people which profess the three Evangelical vow of obedience, chastity and poverty. We also live a communal life and share things in common, we live our lives according to the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ and make sure to adapt and follow the steps that the church and it’s tradition have set out for us.

CHARISM

Our charism according to MacAnthony is based on showing mercy to mankind and also to witness the mercy of God, we show mercy to everybody we come across especially the atheist who believed that there is no God, we extend the Lord’s mercy to the entire people in the universe and also help the church to convert the unbelievers and sinners.

SPIRITUALITY

Our work emphasizes on the mercy of God through humility, peace and love, missionary spirit and zeal for the salvation of souls. It is also seen in our preaching parish missions to believers, in our parish work, in our mission to non-believers, in our administration of the sacrament of confession and Holy Eucharist, and the preaching of the Word of God.

APOSTOLATE

The Apostolate of the Sons of Our Lady of Mercy is divided into two parts which are the internal and external apostolate.

INTERNAL APOSTOLATE: Praying for God’s mercy through the help and intercession of Our Lady of Mercy to all mankind.

EXTERNAL APOSTOLATE: Showing mercy to the whole world and humanity through:

  • Teaching the youth/children;
  • Teaching in schools;
  • Correcting the ignorance; and
  • Teaching of catechesis and moral instructions in schools and parishes.

 VISION

MacAnthony as a growing and skillful man had the vision of making the world recognize the mercy of God and the need to be humble, most especially in serving the poorest of the poor, the sick, the disabled, the aged, and the dying.

MISSION

He decided to achieve these by having an association of men who are willing to serve in God’s vineyard and help actualize his vision too.

AIM

Those men will as well be skilled and well trained and as well engage in parish work, school works, youth apostolate, corporal works of mercy, visiting the prisoners, and working in the orphanage homes.
